Bijou Stories

Bijou Stories is a creative project for the older LGBTQ+ community.  Bringing together artists and participants to devise, develop and produce artworks celebrating the contributions of older people.

Our current project, The Good Pirate, responds to fantastical and historical tales of piracy and recasts them through a queer lens in a variety show format which we will be performing on the Cutty Sark in September and at Greenwich Theatre in December.

We will be workshopping the story and performances throughout the summer and participants are welcome to drop in to any of the free workshops and join in the fun. From dance and movement to story development, shadow puppetry to sea shanties, costuming to video making we will be experimenting and creating in informal sessions aimed at building a supportive and creative community.

Whilst a lot of fun for participants our workshops are also developed on the principles of supporting wellbeing and positive mental health with a focus on a group that is vulnerable isolation and poor mental health. The target group is also one that experiences health inequalities and a lack of suitable support with positive ageing.
