Fran Duncan - Abstract Art for Healthcare & Healing Spaces

Fran Duncan is a Brighton-based abstract artist whose work was born from necessity as much as creativity. Living with ME and scoliosis, Fran works from her home studio, creating from within her own experience of chronic illness, rest, and slow recovery. Her art is not simply inspired by healing - it is a direct product of it.

Working with pigmented alcohol inks, Fran builds luminous, layered abstracts that evoke nature, stillness and emotional renewal. Her collections: Elemental, Aurora, Conversations with Nature and Deep Listening, draw on the transient beauty of the British coastline, shifting light, and the quiet wisdom of the natural world. Each painting is completely one-of-a-kind, shaped by an intuitive process that welcomes the unpredictable and finds beauty in impermanence.

Fran's work has been exhibited internationally, including at Earth Garden in Tokyo, where she received the MARUI Corporate Award as part of the HERALBONY Arts Prize 2024 - a prize dedicated to artists with disabilities. She is also a recipient of an Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice grant.

Fran is actively seeking to place her work in healthcare settings - hospitals, hospices, GP surgeries, mental health units, therapy rooms and wellbeing centres - where art has a proven role in reducing patient anxiety, supporting staff and creating environments of calm.

Her work is available in three ways:

Original works:  ready-to-hang originals available for outright purchase or long-term rental
Prints: high-quality fine art prints suitable for larger installations or multiple spaces
Commissions: bespoke works created to a brief, space or colour palette, with full consultation

Fran warmly invites healthcare commissioners, arts managers and consultancies to book a free virtual studio tour -  a video call in which she can walk you through her available works, discuss healthcare placement options, and explore commission briefs from her studio.
