Free Creative Workshops for Young People age 10 and above

Founded in 2016, Youth First spun out of Lewisham Council with the aim to sustain and grow youth work. We provide youth work to thousands of young people a year, with many of those seen on a regular basis.

At Youth First we believe the relationships youth workers have with young people and the opportunities we provide are the key to helping young people enjoy their youth and develop the skills to ensure a positive future – for themselves and their communities.

As part of our activities, we have been running a Carnival-inspired programme for the last three years at Woodpecker Youth Club, where we offer a variety of free creative workshops and courses throughout the year, each lasting six weeks. The programme explores everyday issues and struggles through carnival, culture and the creative arts.

In honour of Creativity and Wellbeing Week, we will be hosting a six-week-long block of workshops exploring the theme of wellbeing through the arts. The weekly sessions will include Drama with facilitators from The Albany, Dance and Traditional Drumming in partnership with IRIE! dance theatre, and Sewing and textiles with Make Mee studios. These will all take place at the Woodpecker Youth Club (Deptford) and are free to attend.
