Description

In collaboration with Stitched-up-theatre, Thackray Museum of Medicine invites you to share your story through our reflective project ‘Stitch Your Story’ inspired by the life and embroidered words of Mary Frances Heaton.

Join us to create your own sampler as we explore identity through creative words and expressive embroidery.

Whilst no sewing experience is needed, you will need:

  • A4 size piece of fabric,
  • pencil,
  • a needle,
  • threads (use 2/3 embroidery threads or double up normal sewing cotton).

Sew-In sessions will run fortnightly on Zoom, from 6-7pm, starting on Wednesday 5th May -14th July.

The sew-in's are casual meets combining sewing, tips, and techniques with chat and a cuppa!

On the 19th May we will be joined by Textile Artist Hayley Mills-Styles for an Artist's Talk and Demonstration. In this one hour talk and demonstration, Hayley will talk about her work exploring mental health and wellbeing. Sharing some of the techniques she uses and answering your embroidery questions.

If you have any questions about 'Stitch Your Story' or would like to express your interest in joining please email - jessica.smith@thackraymuseum.org
