The Black Men's Consortium presents their latest play for Mental Health Awareness Week & Creative Wellbeing week: Umbilical: Born Black, Borne Silent – Addressing Racial Inequalities in Maternal Care, devised and performed by the members with lived experiences of injustices in healthcare.
Call to Action!
This community engagement event seeks to shed light not only on the experiences of mothers but also on the role of Black fathers mental health and wellbeing, who are often deeply affected yet overlooked in these discussions. The event also focuses on collaborating with the wider community to identify solutions to improve maternal health care that negatively impact marginalised communities in London.
This highly interactive-participatory performance aims to amplify underrepresented voices and explore the importance of Black men supporting their partners in advocating for maternal wellbeing mental, physical, and emotional while navigating the complex and, at times, challenging interactions with healthcare professionals.
At the event you will watch a performance that highlights problems within maternal healthcare, be invited to act out solutions for change and propose and vote on policy ideas that co-create innovative and effective solutions to these issues, promoting equity, creativity, and fun.
The Black Men's Consortium wants to create an environment where everyone can feel motivated, energised, listened to and excited to dialogue with young people, local residents, parents, youth & community leaders, local businesses and senior staff and policy managers within health, employment, social care, housing, education and policing.
The Black Men's Consortium wants to amplify hidden voices to be heard and championed so that we can all act on stage together to rehearse new ways to improve maternal health in order to experience improved treatment with healthcare.
Come and join the joyful activities and collaborative process.
