A one hour workshop celebrating menopausal experiences as a creative freelancer - mayhem, mastery & collaborative art.

Creative freelancing provides us with some extra challenges when navigating things like The Menopause...

Brain fog, fatigue, the endless searching for words that were there just two minutes ago, clumsiness, confusion & muscle aches...this is just the start of the madness and mayhem - However, this does not mean we can't have some fun with it! 🥳

Welcome to the 3rd event by me and #freethemenopause - an initative to drive more focus on research, consideration and policy for freelancers, artists and those outside of traditional employment when it comes to Menopause care.

There are a staggering 989,000 creative freelancers making up the UK workforce who are currently not included in the UK GOV health statistics, menopause mandates or training, nor in the multidisplinary & systematic approach needed to begin to bring these discussions to the forefront. This is where #freethemenopause comes in!

We're taking a slightly different approach for this online gathering and will be celebrating everything menopause; flipping the narrative on its head and thanking our bodies for what they do and taking the opportunity to step back and feel the benefits of play.🤗

What if menopause was a source of strength, what if we re framed our brain fog as a chance to set clear boundaries and what if our symptoms were in fact hidden super powers?! Yes - come together with like minded individuals and join me for an hour or fun creativity as we embrace the hot flushes & turn them in to super hero alter ego's.

There will be a quick intro at the start, then a movement exercise to ground us in our bodies & spread a smile, before I offer a couple of prompts and we explore our own personal experiences via creations such as The No-BS Queen, The Rage Witch and my own personal alter ego; The Tinkle Trikster. Always on hand to put out a fire!! 🔥 🤣

Wednesday 30th April @ 12.30pm - Online via Google Meets

Exploring our journey and our experiences via creative acts like play, collaging, drawing, dressing up, dancing, singing or any other form; can help us to find balance, re connect with ourselves and bring us comfort when we need it; filling our souls & helping us to navigate all fo the feels, be those fearful or joyful. It can bring us together, help us to feel empowered and form part of a shared language to express ourselves in ways that we may otherwise not be able.

I really look forward to welcoming you to this safe space and to this fun hour of exploration and discovery, together. Carli x

And who am I?!

My engagement with photography began as a means to express myself and explore the world around me and, now with over 14 years commercial experience I am more enthusiastic than ever to lean in to my firmly rooted belief of just how powerful storytelling can be.

As someone with POI and who is a freelance commercial photographer, I am only too familiar with the ways in which this can and has impacted my work and, after much research only to find there are no support networks for those like me, I decided to start my own! #freethemenopause

I aim to create images and work on projects and campaigns that can be a catalyst for change, integrating my personal practice to create space for authentic narratives that passionately champion inclusivity, curiosity and courage, particautly in the world of health, wellness and art based research.

FREELANCERS & CREATIVES HAVE SAID...

"I don't just want to scream in to the echo chamber, I'd like to have valid conversations and have not seen or heard of the space to have them within this context as yet."

"Being able to say what you need as a freelancer is key. Making change alongside others and next to those who commision us is a step forward, let's look at how we can empower ourselves to do that together."

"This is valid, so valid. A conversation can be the step you need to feel included, to feel seen. It's about creating change in the corner that you are in."

"I think we need to learn to say what we need as freelancers, what do we want it to look like for us?
