What is art psychotherapy?
Art therapy is a type of psychological therapy (rather than an art class or hobby) that uses creative practices like drawing, painting, collage, and sculpting to provide an accessible way to communicate and contain thoughts and feelings that are too difficult to express with words alone - sometimes there simply are no words.
You don’t need any artistic ability to benefit from art psychotherapy, and there is no requirement to produce art in these sessions. Access Art Therapy sessions are suitable for people of all ages, and the content of your therapy, including any artwork created, is strictly confidential.
Who is art psychotherapy for?
Art psychotherapy can be particularly helpful for people who are suffering because of the COVID-19 pandemic, trauma, bereavement, stress, burnout, anxiety, depression, memory difficulties, displacement, loss, and separation. We provide online art psychotherapy sessions for both children and adults living across the UK.
As well as individual sessions, Access Art Therapy also offers group art psychotherapy sessions, which create a strong sense of togetherness and can be particularly useful during times of change or crisis, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Groups sessions offer a dynamic environment that helps participants gain a deeper insight into their experiences while maintaining the capacity to think and reflect safely with others. These non-judgemental spaces are underpinned using psychodynamic and group analytic thinking.
